Sara Davies, founder and creative director of Crafter’s Companion.
At the young age of just 21, Sara Davies founded the global, multi million pound business Crafter's Companion.
The company’s first product was a ground-breaking tool that disrupted the craft market and it has continued to delight its highly-engaged customers with innovative designs ever since.
Today, the international award-winning company sells art and crafts products across more than 40 countries and has an office and global distribution centre in the North East of England, as well as an office in California.
To date, the business has proudly collected more than 30 awards for the company’s achievements and Sara’s accomplishments as an entrepreneur, in addition to a multitude of craft industry awards for its innovative products. These include an MBE awarded for Sara’s services to the economy in 2016 and a Queen’s Award for International Trade in 2020.
In April 2019, Sara became the youngest-ever female dragon to join BBC One’s Dragons’ Den and she danced her way to week seven on Strictly Come Dancing’s 19th series with her partner Aljaz Škorjanec in 2021.
Sara has written two books, her autobiography – We Can All Make It – and a step-by-step craft project book Craft Your Year which was released in October 2023.
She regularly co-presents on BBC’s magazine programme, Morning Live, and judged BBC’s Ultimate Wedding Planner with Fred Siriex and Raj Somaiya in summer 2023.
In 2024 Sara was awarded an Honorary Degree of Doctor of the University of York, where she first studied for her Bachelor’s Degree.
Alongside Vicky Pattison, Laura Whitmore and Alex Scott, Sara completed Comic Relief’s first all-female celebrity challenge in February 2024, trekking four days across the Arctic to raise money for Red Nose Day.
The entrepreneur’s new show, Making It with Sara Davies helps aspiring inventors take their innovative ideas from paper to create fully functional, commercial products and will air on the BBC later in 2024.
Sara Davies MBE is the founder and creative director of Crafter’s Companion. She was born in Coundon to entrepreneurial parents, Frank and Susan, and today lives in County Durham with her husband Simon and her children, Oliver and Charlie.
Sara established Crafter’s Companion while studying for a Business Management degree at York University. During a placement at a small craft company, she spotted a gap in the market for a tool that could create bespoke envelopes for handmade cards. With help from her retired engineer father, Sara designed and launched a ground-breaking craft product called The Enveloper.
After securing a slot on TV shopping channel Ideal Word, The Enveloper became an instant hit, selling 1,500 in the first ten minutes and 30,000 units within six months of the initial demonstration. This demand led Sara to develop her first line of innovative products for the craft market. She left university with a first-class honours degree and a business turning over half a million pounds.
Today, Crafter’s Companion is a household name in the industry. It has expanded its range of papercraft products to include sewing and needlecraft items, in addition to its own brand of art materials, Spectrum Noir.
The company designs, manufactures and sells its craft-related products to customers across 40 countries and employs more than 200 people worldwide. It continues to celebrate its North East roots, with a head office, warehouse and store in County Durham, and has established stores in Chesterfield and Evesham. Crafter’s Companion also has a US head office and warehouse in Corona, California.
Crafter’s Companion has appeared in the Sunday Times’ SME Export Track 100 list four times. It ranked at number 73 in 2019, 31 in 2018, after experiencing 72% year-on-year-growth in export sales, 52 in 2017 and number 26 in 2015.
To date, the business has proudly collected more than 30 awards for the company’s achievements and for Sara’s accomplishments as an entrepreneur, in addition to a multitude of craft industry awards for its innovative craft products. These include the Queen’s Award for International Trade, the Shell Livewire Young Entrepreneur, Women of the Future Award and the Stevie Women in Business award for Young Entrepreneur, as well as International Business of the Year at the Federation of Small Businesses Awards.
Sara has also been recognised in the ‘Who’s Who of Britain’s Business Elite’, CNBC’s UK’s ‘Top Ten Brilliant Entrepreneurs’ and received the Creative Entrepreneur of the Year at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.
In 2016, Sara was presented with an MBE in the Her Majesty’s Birthday Honours List, for services to the economy.
Sara regularly features on the Create and Craft TV channel in the UK, in addition to the Home Shopping Network (HSN) in the US, QVC Germany and QVC UK. She was the founding Chair of the board of directors at the Craft Hobby Association UK, now known as the AFCI-UK, which complemented her role on the board of the affiliate US chapter.
The entrepreneur is passionate about championing women in business, mentoring and the North East of England.
In 2019, Sara was named as the youngest entrepreneur to join BBC One’s Dragons’ Den and she danced her way to week seven on series 19 of Strictly Come Dancing with her partner Aljaž Škorjanec in 2021.
Sara has written two books, her autobiography – We Can All Make It – and a step-by-step craft project book Craft Your Year which was released in October 2023.

YOUR PEAKEFEST FOUNDER
NICOLA PEAKE
Nicolas Mission is to connect thousands of entrepreneurs so together they can create a huge positive impact by growing their own businesses.
Nicola Peake, 44, from Bridgnorth, originally from Birmingham, is an entrepreneur who’s crafted a life she loves, having consciously created a business to fill her days with her favourite things - people, connection and incredible luxury experiences.
She’s on a mission to support others in business, to enjoy life, alongside building their empires, having experienced the flip side of the coin, when, despite earning 6 figures in a career she loved, at the age of 41 life didn’t feel worth living.
Coming from a 20-year career as a financial advisor before she entered the world of entrepreneurship, Nicola saw many examples of what success looks like -and has seen people from all walks of life defy stereotypes to create incredible wealth. She’s broken the mold herself, climbing through the financial services industry, starting out as a 20-year-old single mum in a male-dominated world.
She’s experienced success driven by her desire to always want more than she had when she was a kid. But she’s also seen people with lots of wealth be desperately unhappy, trapped by their career or business, and disconnected from life. She’s been there too, at rock bottom, with spiraling debt, loneliness and suicidal ideation.
After leaving corporate life with nice cars, big bonuses and luxury entertainment, due to a toxic situation, then running a 20K a month business from home which ended up making her miserable, Nicola realised that she craved connection and community and that without these 2 things, money meant nothing.
Running a business where she was alone the majority of the time made her feel isolated, and was in huge contrast to what she’d loved during her career - working with, and helping people.
Nicola’s natural default is to be ‘sociable, loud and the centre of attention’ - she was always called a chatterbox in her school reports, but over the years she had found this caused negative judgment. However, when analysing her life and what she wanted from it, after hitting rock bottom, she realised she would only be happy if she connected with herself more fully and filled her cup based on her true characteristics.
Peakes Private Members Club was born focusing on business growth, building real relationships, collaborating, sharing successes, asking for help, networking, and enjoying unique experiences together.
Nicola admits to being ‘pretty rubbish in her own company’ and she missed many of the experiences that came with a high-flying corporate career - this business set about filling all the gaps she had in her life, and opening doors to other people in business who wanted a place to belong too.
This is now a successful community with 90 incredible business owners , who will ‘never again feel lonely in business’, and it’s a place that challenges ‘traditional networking cliques’.
Nicola wanted to go bigger, better, and create something truly phenomenal to impact and help hundreds, maybe thousands of entrepreneurs.
So, from this desire, determination and grit, PeakeFest was born….

ACCESSIBILITY & DIVERSITY
We are striving to make sure Peakefest is as accessible and diverse as possible.
ACCESSIBLITY
There will be dedicated parking near the campsites and the main site, so there aren't any long walks to reach the festival areas. We will also work our hardest to make moving around as easy as possible, with matting at some of the key areas. The festival is on grass and the conditions can vary depending on the weather.
DIVERSITY
At PeakeFest 2024, we're committed to creating an environment where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and safe. We understand the importance of diversity and inclusivity, especially for marginalised groups. Our team is actively working to ensure that PeakeFest is a space where every voice is heard and respected, and where everyone can enjoy the event without fear of discrimination or discomfort. Join us in celebrating diversity and creating an atmosphere of true inclusivity and belonging.
EASY MOBILITY
You will have the opportunity to hire mobility scooters. These will be yours to retain throughout the festival if you are camping. Return each evening to be charged. They cannot be kept by your tent overnight.
CHILL-OUT AREA
As this event is in beautiful surroundings, there will be space for you to walk and get away from where the most noise is. You can also head to the wellbeing area to sit and chill. We want to ensure that anyone who is neurodivergent or gets overwhelmed will have somewhere to relax and shut off.
FREE CARERS TICKETS
One carer ticket will be free when accompanying a full-paying adult ticket holder. Please choose the accessible ticket option at checkout to ensure you receive your one free carer ticket.
(*Proof of disability will be required, we will email you for confirmation after you have purchased your ticket)
FOR OUR FULL ACCESSIBILITY TERMS, PLEASE CLICK HERE
We appreciate that festivals may have additional barriers in place which make it more difficult for some people to attend.
Our mission is to be as accessible for as many people as possible, so we are working hard to try and make adaptions where we can so that you can enjoy the festival as much as everyone else.
There will be dedicated accessibility parking near the campsites and the main site, so there aren’t any long walks to reach the festival areas.
We will also work our hardest to make moving around as easy as possible, with flat entrances to all tipis, and we have brought in an on-site team
where you can collect your mobility scooter for the weekend.
Event Mobility is a registered charity, established in 1998/9 to provide access to shows and events for the disabled, elderly and mobility impaired through the short term loan of electric scooters and manual wheelchairs. The charity was the brain child of the founder, Bryan Lupton, who was diagnosed in 1995 with MS and could no longer enjoy “walking the X- country course” at Badminton Horse Trials. With the use of a loaned mobility scooter he was, once again, able to enjoy what more mobile people could and decided this facility should be available at events throughout the country. As a result, with the help of Jeremy Soper, a close relative, Event Mobility was born and in March 1999, became a registered charity (No. 1074608).
This is a small cost of just £35 for the whole weekend, and you must order yours IN ADVANCE. There will not be additional ones to hire on the day.
Each evening they must be returned to the team to be charged secure overnight.
The festival is on grass and the conditions can vary depending on the weather.
